Book 8, Volume 3
This Sunday is Mother’s Day and we will be providing some special opportunities for that special woman in your life. Teter Retreat and Farm will be providing a potted flower for every woman who attends, or you may take one home for the person you wish to honor. In addition, Pam Caplinger is setting up balloon arches outside the Sanctuary (Door 1) and Celebration Hall (Door 2,7) for photo opportunities with your loved ones. You know the music will be great and for the message in Traditional Worship at 8:30 and 9:45 in the Sanctuary, I will be preaching, Never Send a Man to Do a Woman’s Job. In preparation, I want you to read Matthew 16:1-16. Director of Student Ministry David McKenzie is going to share a powerful story on the witness and passing of his mother which ignited his faith journey and basically led him to his position at Noblesville First. In preparation for his message, read 2 Timothy 1:5. I know his grandmother and mother personally and given that knowledge it is the perfect scripture for his message.
Don’t forget next Sunday, May 15, we have the honor of hosting the UMC Indiana Annual Conference's Bishop Julius Trimble. He will be preaching in Traditional Worship at 8:30 and 9:45 in the Sanctuary. Bishop Trimble will affirm the value of our United Methodist connection. Pastor Matt Hantelman will bring the message in Contemporary Worship at 9:30 and 11:00 in Celebration Hall.
We finally reached agreement last night on the purchase of a home in Newburgh, Indiana. It will be a lot of work to make it the home we want, but Nancy loves her home design projects. The location is a little bit further from Kelsey and Janae than we preferred but it is close to the best shopping in Evansville. Nancy thinks Newburgh has a feel of being a cross between Broad Ripple and Zionsville. Our house here in Noblesville will go on the market tomorrow and we will likely show through the weekend and then examine offers Monday morning. It is a crazy housing market!
Teter Retreat and Farm is having one of the most important fundraising events of the year this Saturday and Sunday, May 7 & 8, from 10:00 to 2:00. The Plant Sale will go on rain or shine. If we get as much rain as is suggested Friday, which is when we set up for the event, we may need extra help getting the plants out for display Saturday morning. Please keep checking your Teter Organic Farm social media for the latest news as Katy may put out a special call for help.
The Teter Organic Farm greenhouse is bursting at the seams with vegetable plants ready to be transplanted into the field. Be a part of Teter's mission to feed the food insecure in Hamilton County and lend a hand for Community Field Planting Days anytime Thursday, May 12 through Saturday, May 14, 10AM-2PM each day. No experience is necessary. All ages are welcome. There will be tasks for every skill level! In addition, we'll be hosting Mulch Day in the outdoor worship space on those days. We’ll be removing old mulch and spreading new mulch. All willing and able hands are welcome! Does your company host a community work day? This is a great team building and community service activity! Questions? Contact Farm Manager Katy Rogers at krogers@TeterOrganicFarm.com.
Interesting in learning more about the edible plants and roots found in nature? Then the Foraging Hike is for you! Come to Teter Organic Farm on May 14 at 2 pm for hands-on learning with a certified herbalist. Cost is $20. Pre-registration is required (18 and over only) and there’s a maximum of 15 participants. Learn more at TeterOrganicFarm.com/foraging.
The Teter Adventure Club kick-off for kids kindergarten-5th grade is still on for this Friday, May 6 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. They do have rain plans in place. The only thing which might disrupt the event is if there are thunderstorms during that time. Keep an eye on the Noblesville First Kids Facebook page or Instagram page. Part of tomorrow’s adventure experience involves learning about the differences between miniature horses and miniature donkeys from "The Ark" and their therapy farm animals. Learn more at NoblesvilleFirst.com/AdventureClub.
The Family Ministry is so excited for summer that they could just POP! Beginning June 1, parents and their children under age five and their older siblings are welcome to come hang out at the Noblesville First playground every Wednesday from 10 am - 12 pm in June and July. Older siblings are welcome to play, so bring the whole family for a morning of fun in the summer sun. Rainy day? No problem! We will open up our indoor play space on Wednesdays in inclement weather. We hope to see you at one or all of our Pop in and Play events in June and July. Feel free to reach out to Ally Hall if you have any questions about the Pop in and Play events at ahall@noblesvillefirst.com.
As mentioned earlier, on Sunday, May 22, we'll take time during 9:45 worship to recognize graduating seniors in the congregation---those earning high school, undergraduate and post-graduate diplomas. Each graduate will receive a gift. In preparation, we want to gather the following information about each graduate: name, school from which they're graduating, and plans for after graduation. To ensure we have a gift for you/your graduate, please submit this information on or before May 1 to Director of Student Ministry David McKenzie at dmckenzie@NoblesvilleFirst.com.
Everyone in the congregation is invited for A Faith Filled Farewell open house honoring those who retired from Noblesville First during the pandemic and those retiring this year: Jerry Rairdon, Matt Hantelman, Jenell Hadley, Tom Shriver-McGrevy, Cindy Romano, Carol Miller, Don Gustafson, Carol Darling & Amanda Lindorf. Come on Sunday, June 5 from 2-4PM in Celebration Hall (Door 2,7) for refreshments and a brief program at 2:30PM. Questions? Contact Julia Kozicki at julia@thekozickis.org.
The Noblesville First Kids program (birth-12th grade) runs from 9:45-10:45 on Sundays.
The preschool-5th grade classes will head to Acts 3:1-4:21 with Peter and John and their unflinching moment of resilience. Peter and John were resilient even when arrested for sharing the message of Jesus. They wouldn’t let it get them down. They stood up to the religious leaders and never gave up on the mission from Jesus. They were willing to do whatever it took to get it done. Bottom Line: Keep going even when it gets tough. Kids will face moments when they either want to give up or don’t know how to keep going. In those times, it’s essential to help them remember that God is always with them. God can give them the strength to have resilience and finish whatever task is before them. We pray they learn that they can trust God no matter what and keep going.
In the past two weeks, the 6th-12th grade class has learned how the Green Lantern was an image bearer as we are image bearers for Christ and how Spiderman's spidey-sense is much like how the Holy Spirit nudges us to make good decisions and life choices. This week, they'll continue their "Superhero Parables of the Comics" to see how Wonder Woman's Golden Lasso of Truth can help us to be truthful to God, our friends & family as well as ourself. We will also look at the importance of Moms, Grandmas and other women in our lives to see how they continue to be Superheroes for us.
We have shared our plans for Sunday but be sure if you are gone for the weekend to tune into Thursday Worship with Pastor Matt Hantelman at 6:30 pm tonight on Zoom. Thursday Worship offers an engaging discussion oriented approach to the message. Find the Zoom link and more information at NoblesvilleFirst.com/ThursdayWorship.
Share prayer requests and check out the week's opportunities to connect on the Next Steps page at NoblesvilleFirst.com or on the Noblesville First mobile app. And share your pastoral needs by emailing care@noblesvillefirst.com or calling the 24/7 Care Line at 317-773-2590.
