Registration is open until June 1 for the church’s upcoming mission trip to Guatemala, October 12-20. Noblesville First has an ongoing relationship with Mission Guatemala and they do so much good work for the people in and near San Andres Semetabaj. In addition to working on a construction project, this trip for approximately 20 adults and youth will include cultural opportunities. Participants will experience God in new ways as they receive and share God’s love with people of a different culture. The primary requirement is to live out John Wesley’s directive to “do all the good you can.”

Mission Guatemala is different than other mission organizations because of their relationships with community residents.
Regularly, mission groups come into Guatemalan communities with a set idea of what type of project they want to complete, they do the work on their own (often with little interaction with residents), they complete the project, and then simply leave and move on to another community.
Mission Guatemala, on the other hand, works with community leaders to identify what projects will be most beneficial to the residents, and then works with them to complete the projects. This builds trust and allows for continued engagement, thereby enabling lasting improvement in the lives of community residents.
Common projects include: building of 20+ faucet hand washing stations at schools to promote good hygiene (schools often have only 1 or 2 working faucets for 100+ students), constructing multi-use sport courts for basketball (the 2nd most popular sport in Guatemala) and soccer, building raised sleeping beds (because most homes have dirt floors and during the rainy season water runs through them), improving school classroom and kitchen facilities, constructing chicken coops, and installing high-efficiency home cooking stoves.
