Two years ago, on a mission trip in Kenya, I experienced a moment that quietly reshaped how I understand worship. I woke early one morning, stepped toward the door of my cabin—and froze. Just outside stood a small group of zebras. For a moment, I felt a flicker of nervousness. They were close, unfamiliar, and wild. But they were also calm. Peaceful. Completely at rest.
So, I stayed and watched.
There was a stillness in that moment that felt sacred. The zebras shifted gently, their tails swaying in slow rhythm. Birds filled the trees above me, their songs weaving together like a choir. The air itself seemed alive with praise. I had planned to head to a church service that morning—but standing there, I realized something unexpected:
I was already in the sanctuary.
Scripture tells us that all creation praises the Lord—and that morning in Kenya, I didn’t just believe that truth—I witnessed it. Worship wasn’t confined to a building or a schedule. It was happening all around me. The zebras, the birds, the wind—they were all participating in a kind of worship that was natural, constant, and unforced.
And so are we invited to join.
As we come to the close of our All Creatures Great and Small series, we reflect on this beautiful truth: worship is bigger than us. It is a chorus that includes all God has made. We hope you’ll continue that celebration with us in our communion services — and then join us in The Vine at 1:30 for our Pet Blessing.
Let’s worship together, with all creatures, great and small.
