This morning as my family got up and prepared for the day, three members of our family had to coordinate our shower times, while not over-using the hot water. Everyone was sure to brush their teeth. A few of us ran water through the coffee maker and filled our water bottles before heading out for the day. I was sure to pack my favorite beverage, a Pepsi Zero, for lunch.

In just a few hours, our family of four had used many gallons of water, all of which had been treated so as to be safe for consumption. And all of it, including the water used in coffee and Pepsi production, was taken for granted.

Water is necessary for life on Earth, so it’s no surprise Scripture is filled with momentous encounters and sacred imagery centered around it. Wells become places of unexpected meeting, rivers become places of cleansing, and “living water” becomes a promise of renewal. Isaiah speaks of God pouring water on thirsty land and pouring the Spirit upon the people reminding us that creation itself is a vessel of God’s grace.

The movement of water on Earth can mirror the movement of the Spirit in our lives. In this way, God’s creation and our faith journey are inseparably intertwined, each revealing the other’s depth and beauty. Join us this Sunday as we delve into a vision of living water that brings flourishing to all it reaches.

Pastor Amber
